What are the Contraindications to Massage Treatment?
Massage treatment is non-invasive, relaxing and natural. It is therefore generally considered a safe treatment for most people, however there can be instances where a massage treatment cannot be carried out – either totally or on a particular (local) area of the body.
Total Contraindications
If you are suffering from any of these conditions, please do not book a massage. If you have booked an appointment and develop one of these conditions post-booking, please contact me to cancel and reschedule:
- Suffering from contagious diseases, including any cold or flu (no matter how mild it may seem)
- Have a fever
- If you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, including prescription pain medication
- If you have had very recent operations or acute injuries
- Suffering from Neuritis
- Have a skin disease

I can perform massage treatments on other areas if you are affected in a particular area by:
- Undiagnosed lumps or bumps
- Bruising, Cuts or Abrasions
- Sunburn
- Severe inflammation, including arthritis
- Varicose veins
- or if you are pregnant.
Medical Contraindications
If you suffer from any of the following medical conditions then I can only perform massage treatments if you have written consent from your GP/doctor/physician:
- Cardio-vascular conditions (such as high blood pressure (hypertension), heart conditions, angina, thrombosis or phlebitis) or anyone with a pacemaker

Gynaecological infections
Does a contraindication mean that treatment cannot take place?
Not always. In fact, receiving a massage can be very therapeutic for many medical conditions. however as in the above cases it is best to get advice (and consent) from your GP/doctor/physician.
